Who We Are
Dedicating our lives to public education has allowed us to experience some absolutely incredible journeys of our students and their families of which we were blessed with being a part.
However, too often, the challenges that surmounted for our students with disabilities were always met with an uphill climb. School districts may not always have the resources that they think they need. Parents struggle to help their child through the complex world of special education services and are overwhelmed navigating laws and IDEA processes. Training school staff to help students can be costly in trying to meet their individual needs.
The window of time we have to prepare our students and our children for the adult world is very short. The time we have to teach our students the fundamentals of academics is even shorter. When problems with behavior are occurring in school, the negative impact on learning progress can be even greater.
Often, a school’s response to student’s behavioral challenge is to conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and to develop a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). While these steps can help, we have found that most FBAs are missing important components, and most BIPs intervene far too late.
We have expertise in program design to maximize student outcomes. We can train staff in collaborative problem solving to help prevent behavior problems in school by helping school staff and students create problem solving plans.
Jamie Bender has thirty-six years of experience as a public school educator including leading the district as the Student Services department for 1000 students with disabilities and as the Assistant Superintendent. The most important part of Jamie’s mission so that students can be successful is to ensure positive relationships with each student and their family along with the school staff that meet their needs each day.
